Remeber, if you can make it up, you can make it down

Remember, if you can make it up, you can make it down!!!

After weeks of stress and the inability to take a break from life, finally the moment had come. A three day weekend with no worries of work or school, just a relaxing weekend of enjoying life. It all started on a early Monday morning.

Three roommates decided to trek up the side of a mountain, one of the tallest peaks in the valley. They were very well prepared with water, food and a first aid kit. All was well, they had studied the trail and where ready for an adventure. Praying that all would go well they started up. These three hikers were not what you would call out of shape, but they sure were not your Olympic cross country runners. The trail said it was moderate, in other words if you are a beginner this is highly advanced.

The first encounter as they started up was not what you would call the friendliest. Being in the spring, mating season, they had to watch carefully for snakes. But in the moment that they turned away, they met their first unwelcome problem. As the lead hiker was enjoying the breathe taking view, she happened to look down and see a healthy size snake slither across the path. She having a huge snake phobia none so gracefully jumped and screamed at the sight. The snake was just as surprised as she and quickly went on his way. The other two only catching a slight sight of the reptile. They too being just surprised as the other also sent out a scream. When they realized that all was well and it was only a fat gardener snake, they continued on their way, hoping for no more problems.....or so they hoped.

As they processed up the mountain, one of the hikers grew weary and had to stop on many occasions. One thing the hikers were hoping for was that the heat would not increase over the course of the day. The fear of heat stroke on the long hike was always in the back of the mind of the more experienced hiker, she had grown up with skills to help on any occasion. Never did it cross her mind that it would be needed that hot day. Not until she glanced back at one of her companions who was starting to show signs of exhaustion.

The three hikers continued up the mountain, taking breaks ever so often to look behind them. The peace they felt, as they looked over the valley and into the city down below them, was enough to catch ones breath and hold onto it. The city laid below in the valley as if it was a display, with each detail put carefully into place. The mountains that laid beyond the valley seemed to say, look at my magnificent beauty and glory. The lakes down below seemed to call to the hikers, as they longed to be cooled from the heat of the day. The over all view was proof that God lives and that he had created every living thing, putting very care and detail into each and every creation.

After one of these breaks of looking over the valley, they stopped for a snack. They would do this every once in a while to keep their strength up and to get a good drink of water.  After this particular break, the hiker who was growing weak was starting to show more signs of fatigue, and that's when the next problem occurred. She fell and hurt her ankle, twisting and making the climb more difficult. She made it to the top with the help and encouragement of the other two hikers.  This is when the experienced hiker was able to stop and see what damage had been made to the ankle.

Grateful that she was prompted to bring the medical kit, she proceeded to help the injured hiker with her ankle. After she declared the ankle not a severe injury she continued to bandage the ankle. While she did this the leading hiker went to scout of for a safer way down. They couldn't go down the way they came up, it was took steep and no way to get the injured hiker down safely. After she returned to proclaim that all was well and a safer route had been discovered, they sat down eating lunch and once again enjoyed the creations of the lord.

Their struggles seemed to be at bay, for the moment life seemed enjoyable and was a perfect way to escape the worries of life. After the delightful time they had at the top of the mountain, the highest peak of the valley, they started the trek down. It was tricky for a moment as they had to scale some rock to go down. None to soon after they had cleared the rocks a sound of a unknown creature came to their ears. This caused them to pick up the pace and hurry away, escaping from a unknown danger helped them realize that they are not in the their world but natures.

As they cautiously inched their way down the mountain, they hoped that this adventure would end with no more worries. They started to enjoy the hike, even singing and being silly as most college students are. They reminisced and talked about everything under the sky, including boys, childhoods and what life brings us. Then with a suddenness one of the hikers signaled the others to stop. She had heard a sound. Gesturing to the others to be quiet, they all stopped to listen, just as they heard a movement in the grass next to them. That's when they heard the rattle. Leaving no time for the new friend to get acquainted with them, they quickly left the scene, dragging the injured hiker away.

The hike continued semi smooth, it was an easier decline than when they had started up. That was until the path seemed to have dropped off the face of the cliff.  They sat in wonder how to get the injured hiker down the path, when even an experienced hiker would need assistance down this side of the hill, the possibility to loose ones traction was obvious. How where they going to get that injured hiker down this hill with the backpacks and themselves safely?

They slowly started and things when from bad to worst. The ankle started to hurt more and the stress on the other hikers was starting to show through their own exhaustion from the heat and hike.  They ended up passing all the backpacks to the lead hiker, while the experienced hiker practically drug, carried and assisted the injured hiker down. The three hikers would of been quiet a sight from any passing fellow hiker. The three linked hands careful to not slip down to their deaths, or more injuries, and trying to move quickly with an urgency to get out of the sun.

After almost skidding to their deaths, or intense injuries, multiple times they finally made it to the bottom of the hill. Thinking that this was the end and that they would soon be in the car with air conditioning, that all came to a skidding halt when the injured hiker almost passed out on them. The urgency to get to her to the car or help was even more important. She was getting worst and her companions where getting worried.

Many people passed by as they eyed the three hikers. One scouting out ahead looking for snakes and any other dangers, as the other one was carrying the injured hiker. Half carrying and half dragging the poor girl, all the way the hikers all held a silent prayer in their hearts. When it seems almost impossible to carry on, two bikers stopped to ask if everything was ok. They quickly said yes, then when the bikers looked back, they instantly saw that this was a tender mercy from God, they cried out asking for help. When they realized that the hikers needed help, they immediately turned back to help.

In an instant when the experienced hiker saw that they would be ok with the help of the bikers, she grabbed her keys, phone and took off with a new born energy to get the car. Hating to leave her companions in the hands of the bikers, she felt more confident that everything would be ok. She trekked on over and through the treacherous path, all the way praying that everything would be fine, all she had to do was get to the car. That was all that was on her mind, until she hit the ground. Being furious that she fell, she got up and asset the situation having twisted her own ankle and knee, she got back up and pressed on to the car.

Meanwhile back to the other two hikers, the bikers where very concerned about the situation that they had found these girls in. They really contemplated calling air-support to get this injured hiker out off this mountain. They knew they couldn't go the same way that the experienced hiker had, they realized that she had to run at least a half a mile to get to the end of the trail, then she still had to get to the car. There was no way they could carry this hiker that way.

They sent out the other hiker ahead of them through the tall grass to look for snakes. Little did they know that this was the same hiker that had a phobia of snakes. As the bikers made the chair hold they were able to get the poor hiker down and through the grass. Just about the same time that the hiker and the car pulled up. Knowing that they where all starting to suffer from the heat, she had the air in the car blasting and water waiting.

Thank heavens they didn't have to go the hospital, they where able to get home and cooled down. With only minimum injuries from the ankle, to a twisted knee, to sun burns that after all that they survived this. Remember life is like climbing a mountain, if you can make it up, you make it down.
